About Service
Rugs are more like fabric than they are like floor. A wool oriental rug, a synthetic flatweave, a jute natural-fiber piece, and a silk Persian rug each need a different cleaning method. The shortcut of ‘just steam everything’ is how rugs come back shrunken, felted, with bleeding dye, or with a backing separated from the fibers. The first thing our technician does on every job is identify what your rug is actually made of — then choose the method that matches. 10,378 cleaning jobs through our system since 2013, NPS +81.

  • IICRC 8-step process. Methodology trained under our Head Trainer David Kelman — IICRC and Green Seal certified, 15 years cleaning-industry experience.

  • EPA Safer Choice + Green Seal compliant products. Plant-based, no VOCs, phosphates, chlorine, or synthetic fragrances. SDS available on request.

Why fiber-specific cleaning matters

Transforming Your Space: Not Just Clean, But Eco-Consciously Healthy

Allergen Removal

Wool oriental, Persian, and hand-knotted rugs need cool water (under 120 °F), neutral-pH detergent, and gentle agitation. High heat or alkaline chemistry causes felting — irreversible matting. Dry foam is often the safer choice for surface soils.

Extended Rug Life

For fine oriental and Persian rugs, oversized pieces, silk, or viscose — we collect from your home, clean in our facility with controlled flushing and drying, and bring back ready. Most NYC competitors only do in-home; we offer both.

Lower Water Footprint

Wool, silk, and natural-fiber rugs don’t tolerate saturation. Our dry-foam and low-moisture methods use 2–3 gallons of water per session vs 8–10 gallons typical for traditional HWE — protects the fiber and the backing.

EPA Safer Choice + Green Seal

Plant-based products, no VOCs / phosphates / chlorine / synthetic fragrances. SDS sheets available on request. We customize selection for clients with specific allergies or sensitivities.

The fibers we see most in NYC homes

Wool

Oriental, Persian, hand-knotted, fine area rugs. Cool water only (under 120 °F), neutral-pH detergent, gentle agitation. High heat or alkaline chemistry causes felting — irreversible matting and shrinkage. Dry foam is often the safer choice for surface soils.

Silk

Luxury accent rugs, fine Persian and oriental pieces. Extremely water- and heat-sensitive. Dry-clean and hand-clean methods only. Some pieces should be referred to a specialty rug plant — we'll tell you honestly when that's the right call.

Cotton

Flatweave area rugs. Tolerates water-based cleaning well. Watch-outs: dye bleed (especially with hand-dyed pieces) and fringe care, since the fringe is often cotton even when the rug body isn't.

Synthetic (nylon, polyester, olefin)

Behaves like carpet fiber. Responds well to Hot Water Extraction (HWE). We check the backing for heat tolerance before going to higher temperatures.

Viscose / Rayon (faux silk)

Acts like silk — bleeds, shrinks, stiffens with moisture. Treated with dry methods only.

Natural fiber (jute, sisal, coir, seagrass)

Cannot be wet-cleaned at all. Even small amounts of moisture cause swelling, discoloration, and weave damage. We use dry compounds, careful vacuuming, and minimal blot work on spots. Contact us for a method assessment before assuming wet cleaning is on the table.

Our Work Process
Methodology trained under our Head Trainer David Kelman — IICRC and Green Seal certified, 15 years of cleaning-industry experience. Every staff member completes initial training before their first shift, with a mandatory refresher every three months.
Pre-inspection

We identify the fiber (often visual and touch), test dye colorfastness in a hidden area, inspect the fringe and backing, and walk through every stain and concern with you before we touch anything.

Vacuuming, both sides

We vacuum the front and back of the rug before any wet work. Most rug soil is dry — it settles into the pile and works downward, so removing it first is what makes the rest of the process effective.

Pre-treatment for stains

We apply targeted pre-treatments to each stain — enzyme for biological (pet urine, blood, food protein), oxidizer for dye stains (wine, fruit juice), solvent for oil. Every pre-treatment is tested first in a hidden spot.

Pre-spray, matched to the fiber

We apply a fiber-specific pre-spray — neutral-pH on wool, mild alkaline on synthetic. We don’t use the same chemistry on every rug.

Agitation

We agitate the pile to lift loosened soil — soft brushing on durable fibers, very light or hand-only action on wool and silk to prevent felting and fiber damage.

Main cleaning — calibrated to the fiber

The method splits four ways based on what we found at pre-inspection. We use HWE on water-safe synthetic; cool HWE or dry foam on wool and wool-blend; dry compound on natural fiber (jute / sisal / coir / seagrass); specialty solvents on silk and viscose. The pre-inspection decides which — we never default. Our portable HWE equipment runs at 120 PSI water pressure with in-line heating calibrated per pass to the fiber.

Rinse and extraction

We use air movers to speed drying without over-aggression, comb the fringe straight, groom the pile, and send you a final photo report.

Controlled drying, grooming, and final inspection

We use air movers to speed drying without over-aggression, comb the fringe straight, groom the pile, and send you a final photo report.

Oriental and Persian rug cleaning — what extra attention means

Hand-knotted oriental rugs (Persian, Turkish, Indian, Chinese oriental) have details machine-made area rugs don’t:

Fringe

is usually cotton; it shouldn't be shampooed with the same chemistry as the rug body (it can yellow or mat). We hand-detail the fringe on every oriental and Persian rug separately.

Dye bleed

is a real risk on older or hand-dyed pieces — natural dyes bleed more easily than modern synthetic. We test colorfastness in a hidden area before any wet method, with cool water and neutral pH. Persian rugs with older natural dyes need the most caution.

Backing

matters. Hand-knotted foundations need careful drying; modern applied-latex backings can be damaged by heat or saturation — we adjust method accordingly.

Faq

Wool, cotton, synthetic (nylon, polyester, olefin), and most blends — in-home or with pickup-and-delivery for off-site cleaning. Oriental and Persian rugs with natural dyes get cool water and neutral-pH treatment to prevent dye movement. For jute, sisal, coir, and other natural-fiber rugs, please contact us for a method assessment — these cannot be wet-cleaned and require a specific dry approach. Silk and viscose pieces are typically handled with specialty dry methods.

Yes — we pick up rugs from your home or office, clean them in our facility with the right method for the fiber, and bring them back. This is the right choice for fine oriental and Persian rugs, oversized pieces, or anywhere we need controlled flushing and drying that’s hard to do in-home.

We test colorfastness in a hidden area before any wet-cleaning step. Wool and silk get cool water and neutral pH to minimize dye movement. Older Persian and oriental rugs with natural dyes need the most caution — we’ll tell you what we find before we start.

Hand-knotted oriental and Persian rugs need extra attention to fringe, dye-bleed risk, and backing. Many are best cleaned off-site through our pickup-and-delivery service, where we can flush carefully and control drying. We’ll assess and recommend the right setting after pre-inspection.

Yes — wool rug cleaning is a steady share of our work. Wool gets cool water (under 120 °F), neutral-pH detergent, and gentle agitation to prevent felting and shrinkage. For surface soils, dry foam is often the safer choice than HWE.

For in-home cleaning we use drop cloths, plastic protection under the rug, and a low-moisture method when appropriate. We extract thoroughly and use air movers; the floor stays protected.

In-home cleaning typically takes 1–3 hours depending on size and method. Pickup-and-delivery turnaround depends on the rug and method — we’ll give you a window when we collect the piece.

For high-traffic rugs, every 12–24 months is a good guideline; sooner if you have pets, kids, or fresh stains. Routine vacuuming between professional cleans extends the rug’s life.

Yes — plant-based, EPA Safer Choice and Green Seal compliant, no VOCs, phosphates, chlorine, or synthetic fragrances. SDS sheets are available for any product on request, and we’ll customize selection for allergies or sensitivities.

Yes — fully insured and bonded, with $1M general liability ($5M umbrella) plus workers’ compensation. Certificates of Insurance are available on request, especially for commercial buildings and Manhattan high-rise.

A 100% Satisfaction Guarantee: notify us within 24 hours, free re-clean within 48 hours, full refund if still unsatisfied. Resolution averages 1–3 business days.

We give you a free custom quote based on the rug’s size, fiber, and condition, plus whether the work is in-home or pickup-and-delivery. Supplies always included — no hidden fees. Get a quote and we’ll come back with a number.
