NYC Leather Furniture Cleaning & Conditioning

Leather is the cleaning category where mistakes are permanent. A misapplied cleaner can strip dye, dissolve finish, or saturate fibers past recovery. We clean and condition consumer leather furniture — sofas, sectionals, armchairs — with pH-balanced products and a 94% First-Time Quality Rate.

About service
Leather is forgiving until it isn’t. Two or three years of body oils, hand contact, food residue, and household dust build up gradually — the surface looks fine until you notice the headrest is darker, the armrests are tacky, or the leather has lost its slight sheen. The professional answer is a periodic cleaning + conditioning cycle every 6–12 months. 10,378 cleaning jobs through our system since 2013, 94% First-Time Quality Rate.
Features
  • Cleaning and conditioning only. Sofas, sectionals, armchairs, ottomans, recliners, dining chairs. We don’t do recoloring, refinishing, or repair of tears/scratches/scuffs — we’ll refer you to a leather specialist if your piece needs that.
  • Single unified process, calibrated at inspection. Pigmented and aniline / semi-aniline leather handled with the same backbone process; product choice and intensity adjusted to your specific piece at the inspection step.
  • pH-balanced, plant-based products. EPA Safer Choice and Green Seal compliant. No VOCs, phosphates, chlorine, or synthetic fragrances. SDS available on request.
  • Methodology trained under Head Trainer David Kelman — IICRC and Green Seal certified, 15 years cleaning-industry experience.
  • 94% First-Time Quality Rate — jobs that don’t need a touch-up or do-over. On leather, this matters more than any other category — misapplied cleaner can permanently damage the piece.

What proper leather cleaning does for your furniture

Transforming your space: not just clean, but eco-consciously healthy

Body-Oil Removal from Wear Zones

Headrests, armrests, and seat-cushion edges accumulate body oils that oxidize and darken over time. Aniline and semi-aniline leather absorbs oils readily; pigmented leather collects them on the topcoat. Our pH-balanced cleaning solution lifts the oils without disturbing the finish or dye.

Conditioning Prevents Cracking

Leather dries out as natural oils evaporate, especially in NYC apartments with year-round HVAC. Without periodic conditioning, leather develops the cracking pattern that defines a worn-out piece — and once it cracks, the repair is cosmetic, not structural. Conditioning is included with every cleaning service — not an upcharge.

Realistic Outcomes on Stains and Wear

Body-oil darkening on headrests usually improves substantially. Surface dust + dullness returns to original sheen. Ink, lipstick, biological stains — assessed at inspection, honest about realistic outcomes. We tell you what to expect before we start — not after.

EPA Safer Choice + Green Seal Products

Plant-based, biodegradable, no VOCs / phosphates / chlorine / synthetic fragrances. Safety Data Sheets available on request. We customize selection at booking for clients with allergies, asthma, or chemical sensitivities.

Our Work Process
Methodology trained under our Head Trainer David Kelman — IICRC and Green Seal certified, 15 years of cleaning-industry experience. Every staff member completes initial training before their first shift, with a mandatory refresher every three months.
Pre-inspection

We walk through the piece with you and confirm the leather type (pigmented, aniline / semi-aniline, or — flagged for special handling — suede / nubuck). We identify visible wear, specific stains, and areas of concern, then test colorfastness in a hidden area before any product reaches the visible surface. If your piece needs repair, refinishing, or recoloring, we discuss the referral here.

Vacuuming with soft brush attachment

We remove loose dust, pet hair, and debris from the surface and crevices with a soft-brush attachment that prevents micro-scratches on the finish.

Leather cleaning solution applied with damp soft cloth

We apply our pH-balanced, plant-based cleaning solution (EPA Safer Choice and Green Seal compliant) with a damp soft cloth — chemistry that lifts dirt and oils without disturbing the finish or dye. We work in small sections at a time, in circular motion, with controlled moisture so the leather never feels wet, only slightly damp. Excess is wiped away promptly with a clean damp cloth.

Targeted stain work

We apply additional spot treatments to specific stains — body-oil darkening on headrests, ink marks, food spills, lipstick — always tested in a hidden area first. We’re honest about realistic outcomes before treatment: some stains improve substantially, some have permanent set.

Drying

We let the leather dry under controlled conditions. The surface is typically dry to the touch within 30–60 minutes; full interior drying within a few hours. We don’t use air movers on leather (the controlled-moisture method doesn’t need them), and we recommend you don’t heat-dry leather either — radiators, hair dryers, and direct sunlight all risk shrinkage and finish damage.

Conditioning

We apply a leather conditioner evenly across the cleaned surface. The conditioner replenishes natural oils that have evaporated, prevents drying and cracking, and brings back the suppleness of well-maintained leather. Conditioning is included with every cleaning service — not an upcharge.

A note on leather types

You may have read that ‘different leather types require different cleaning methods.’ That’s true at the industry-research level — the IICRC standard recognizes three broad categories:

Pigmented / protected leather

Most consumer furniture leather. Slightly plasticky topcoat over a pigment layer; resists moisture better than other types; the most durable and most common type we encounter.

Aniline / semi-aniline leather

Softer, dyed-through, no protective topcoat (aniline) or a very light one (semi-aniline). Develops patina with use — natural color variation, slight darkening over time. This is normal and a feature, not damage to "correct." Absorbs moisture more readily.

Suede / nubuck

Sanded leather with a velvety brushed texture. Very moisture-sensitive; entirely different cleaning approach (specialty dry products only). Pre-service in-person inspection or booking photos required before scheduling.

Our cleaning + conditioning process accommodates pigmented and aniline / semi-aniline leather. For suede and nubuck pieces, we ask for a pre-service in-person inspection — we’ll let you know honestly whether it’s something we can clean or whether you’ll be better served by a suede specialist.

Trust, insurance, and our guarantee

Fully insured and bonded. General liability insurance with COI available on request — particularly relevant for high-value leather pieces and Manhattan high-rise buildings. NYC Business License, OSHA 1910 compliance, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, Hazard Communication Standard.

Full PPE on every job. Nitrile or latex-free gloves, masks when needed, protective eyewear when working with solutions, shoe covers on residential calls, uniforms laundered after each shift.

100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If anything about our leather work isn’t right:

  1. Notify us within 24 hours of the completed clean.

  2. Free re-clean within 48 hours of your complaint.

  3. Full refund if you’re still not satisfied after the re-clean.

Resolution timeline: 1–3 business days average. For accidental damage during cleaning: report within 24 hours, document with photos if possible, resolved through repair coordination, replacement, or monetary compensation based on inspection.

In-house team. Approximately 90% of our cleaning is performed by in-house staff with team-lead tenure averaging 5 years. The same trained eyes do the inspection, mix the cleaning solution, and run the conditioning step — consistency that matters most on a category where the right product applied incorrectly can do as much damage as the wrong product.

Service area: All 5 NYC boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island), Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk), and New Jersey (Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, and surrounding). Response time: 10 minutes during business hours, 1 hour outside business hours.

Common leather problems we improve

Realistic outcomes by stain or wear pattern:

Body-oil darkening on headrests and armrests — usually improves substantially with our cleaning + conditioning cycle; on heavily set patches, a second visit at the 4–6 week mark sometimes reveals further lift.

Surface dust + dullness from accumulated wear — returned to original sheen with proper cleaning + conditioning.

Ink, lipstick, cosmetic stains — variable outcome; fresh stains usually improve substantially; set stains on aniline have lower success rates and we'll be honest about expectations.

Food and drink spills — most improve substantially with prompt service; biological residues (urine, vomit) on aniline have permanent-stain risk and we'll discuss realistic outcomes before treatment.

Pet incidents — assessed at inspection; pigmented leather usually recovers well, aniline has higher risk depending on the contaminant.

Dryness + early cracking — conditioning targets this; cracking that has already progressed is cosmetic only (won't reverse with cleaning, but conditioning prevents further deterioration).

Dullness from age + lack of maintenance — the most common reason customers call; routine cleaning + conditioning typically recovers most of the original appearance.

What we don’t promise:

  • Reversing fading from years of UV-light exposure (this is a refinishing job, not a cleaning one)
  • Removing dye-bleed that’s already permeated aniline fibers
  • Repairing scratches, tears, scuffs, or peeling — these need a leather repair specialist
  • Re-establishing color uniformity on a piece with substantial color loss (refinishing scope, not cleaning)

What we clean — and what we don't

Honest scope, up front. Leather furniture work spans a range of services in the industry; we don’t offer all of them.

What we clean:

  • Consumer leather furniture: sofas, sectionals, armchairs, ottomans, recliners, dining-room leather chairs

  • Cleaning of body oils, surface dirt, food and drink residue, and accumulated wear

  • Conditioning to renew suppleness, prevent drying and cracking, and preserve the leather’s natural feel

  • Pet incidents on leather (assessed at inspection; honest outcomes)

  • Targeted spot work on common stains (ink, lipstick, body oil, food, drink)

What we don’t:

  • Leather color recoloring or re-dye — fading, sun damage, or dye loss requires a leather refinishing specialist, not a cleaner

  • Repair of tears, holes, scratches, or scuffs that need patching or filler work

  • Leather refinishing or replacing damaged sections

  • Suede or nubuck full-piece cleaning without an in-person assessment first — these textures need a specialty product line; we can advise after inspection

If your leather piece needs work beyond cleaning and conditioning, we’ll be honest about it during the inspection and refer you to a leather refinishing specialist when appropriate. Misrepresenting what’s recoverable is the worst service we could provide.

Faq

No — our scope is leather cleaning and conditioning only. For recoloring, redye, refinishing, or repair of tears, scratches, and scuffs, we recommend working with a leather refinishing specialist. We can discuss appropriate next steps during the inspection if your piece needs more than cleaning.

Pigmented / protected leather (most consumer furniture leather) and aniline / semi-aniline leather. For suede and nubuck pieces, we ask for an in-person inspection or photos at booking before scheduling — these textures need specialty products and we want to confirm scope before promising results.

For pigmented leather: no — the finish stays uniform after a proper clean. For aniline / semi-aniline: the leather may darken slightly while wet, which is normal and reverts as it dries; the dye itself stays intact when we test colorfastness first and use pH-balanced products throughout.

Most consumer leather furniture in regular use benefits from professional cleaning + conditioning every 6–12 months. High-use pieces closer to 6 months; less-used pieces closer to 12.

That’s outside our scope — those are repair and refinishing services. We can discuss your piece at the inspection step and refer you to a leather repair specialist when appropriate. Cleaning won’t fix the issue, but it can prepare the leather for the repair appointment.

The surface is typically dry to the touch within 30–60 minutes after we finish; full interior drying within a few hours. We don’t use air movers on leather and we don’t recommend radiators, hair dryers, or direct sunlight to accelerate drying — controlled drying is part of the process.

Yes — plant-based, EPA Safer Choice + Green Seal compliant cleaning and conditioning products. No VOCs, phosphates, chlorine, or synthetic fragrances. SDS available on request. For specific allergies or sensitivities, mention it when booking — we customize product selection.

Assessed at inspection. Pigmented leather usually recovers well from biological stains caught promptly. Aniline / semi-aniline leather absorbs these readily and the success rate is lower the longer they’ve set — we’ll be honest about realistic outcomes before starting.

100% Satisfaction Guarantee — notify us within 24 hours, free re-clean within 48 hours, full refund if still unsatisfied. Resolution typically within 1–3 business days.

Pricing is custom-quoted based on piece size, condition, leather type, and access. Supplies are included; no hidden fees. We provide a quote during booking before any service starts.

Fully insured and bonded — $1M general liability ($5M umbrella) plus workers’ compensation. COI on request, particularly for Manhattan high-rise buildings and high-value leather pieces.

All 5 NYC boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island), Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk), and New Jersey (Hoboken, Jersey City, Newark, and others).

Typically within 10 minutes during business hours; within 1 hour off-hours.
